Ukraine promises to create state operator on grain market
The Ukrainian government is planning soon to create a state operator on the grain market that is expected to help producers sell grain at acceptable prices for them, Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Slauta has said.
He noted that private companies that are currently operating on the grain market were dictating disadvantageous prices for farmers.
"Farmers have no other buyers of grain, apart from private traders. They have repeatedly said that they were obliged to sell their grain to exporters at a too low price. Therefore, we will create a state grain trader as an alternative to companies that buy grain and export it from Ukraine. And this will happen in the near future," Slauta said.
Such a state agency is to be created on the basis of the state-run company Khlib Ukrainy, he said.
