Ukraine prepares to lift embargo for Polish meat

Ukraine will be ready to take a decision on raising an embargo for import of Polish meat by results of an audit.

Economic Development and Trade Minister Pavlo Sheremeta told a press conference about this in Warsaw, a special correspondent of Ukrinform reports.

“In the nearest future, all necessary formalities will be carried out. This includes an audit, by results of which a decision will be taken,” the Minister stressed.

In the meantime, as Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told a briefing by results of a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsia, in Kyiv Friday, this issue is very important for Warsaw.

“Lifting of an embargo for Polish agricultural products is very important for Poland. And yesterday, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk and Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsia today assured me that the embargo will be lifted very soon,” he said.

On his part, Andriy Deshchytsia said that consultations of veterinary services of Ukraine and Poland will be held on May 27, during which concrete agreements are planned, which will allow lifting the embargo.

To remind, Ukraine imposed the embargo for import of Polish beef in 2008, and for pork - in February this year due to detection of African swine fever with wild boars on the territory of Poland. A few days ago, Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Ihor Shvaika has announced the readiness of Ukraine to open the market for Polish pork.
