Ukraine planning to increase milk output by 2020
Milk production in Ukraine may grow by 25% by 2020, while almost a third of total milk production is to be exported. Such tasks are foreseen in the state economic program for the development of dairy cattle breeding in Ukraine, which was drafted by the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry.
Under the program, in 2020, milk production in Ukraine is to be increased to 14.5 million tons (from the current 11.6 million tons), including up to 9.2 million tons of high-quality milk to ensure the country's food security and up to four million tons of milk intended for export.
It is planned, in particular, to introduce a mechanism of public financial support on a return basis at 50% of the cost of building new high-tech farms for at least 500 cows, reconstructing and modernizing the existing ones. It is planned to bring the system of organizing breeding livestock in line with international practices.
The program is to be funded using the state budget, loans, domestic and foreign investment, own funds of Ukrainian producers, etc.
