Ukraine may lift export quotas to sell grain to 12 countries: government

Ukraine's Economy Ministry has proposed to lift quotas for grain exports to deliver grain to Russia, nine other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, Georgia and Macedonia, "as Ukraine is under free trade agreements with those countries," local press reported Tuesday.

The ministry announced relevant draft resolution on Monday, giving no details on the amount of exports, according to reports.

The Ukrainian government imposed quotas on grain exports on Oct. 7.

According to the government decision, grain exports this year will be limited to 2 million tons of corn, 500,000 tons of wheat and 500,000 tons of barley.

The quotas will be in force until the end of the year, "but could be lifted earlier," the government noted

However, last week Ukraine agreed to supply 2 million tons of corn to Russia out of quotas.

Earlier, the country agreed to supply 120,000 tons of grain to Georgia.
