Ukraine: maize sowing areas to exceed 3 mln ha
As of May 18, 2011 Ukraine sowed 7.3 mln ha of spring grains as opposed to 7.6 mln ha of the planned sowing area, stated the First Deputy Minister of the Agrarian Policy and Food Nikolay Bezuglyi on May 19.
The Minister also confirmed the forecast of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food that the general sowing are for crop 2011 will total 26.7 mln ha, including grains field – 15.6 mln ha (up 443 thsd ha compared to 2010).
At the same time N.Bezuglyi noted that the regions applied the new methods for the sowing area structure, taking into account the recommendations of the science and the Ministry. In particular the agrarian will increase maize sowing areas. The Minister underlined that sowing areas for the stated crop will exceed 3 mln ha at first for all the times of Ukraine. According to his data Ukraine sowed 3.2 mln ha of maize.
