Ukraine, Libya sign memorandum on mutual understanding

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Raisa Bogatyreva discussed in Tripoli issues of bilateral Ukrainian-Libyan cooperation in the political and economic fields, and in the sphere of security.
 
As the news agency UNIAN reports, "among priority directions of bilateral cooperation, the sides touched upon issues of interaction in opposing modern challenges and threats," as well as interaction in the military, technical and security spheres. The sides also discussed issues of "implementation of joint investment projects in agriculture and development of Libya's infrastructure," including "cooperation in the aviation and space sectors, as well as in the fuel and energy complex." The sides defined mechanisms of "exchanging information and experience in the fight with terrorism, organized crime, smuggling, illegal migration, illegal trade in arms and drugs."
 
On the results of the talks, as UNIAN reports, Raisa Bogatyreva and Libya's National Security Advisor Mutassim Gaddafi on Monday signed a memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation which contains practical mechanisms of interaction. Among them, in particular, is "the holding of bilateral consultations on issues of security with the attraction of Ukraine's secret services, Interior Ministry, NSDC experts and corresponding agencies of the Libyan side."
 
During a working visit of Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko to Libya, which was held on May 25-26 this year, the sides agreed on the construction of a refinery in Odessa with capacities of 10 million tons a year. After its commissioning, its products will be sold both in Ukraine and in Europe. Libya also expressed readiness to supply 600,000 tons of crude oil to the Kremenchug refinery which has problems with oil purchases.
 
Then the Libyan side also expressed readiness to increase the volume of investments in the sphere of oil and gas production, and in agriculture of Ukraine.
