Ukraine keeps low rates of grain exports – expert

During the period of August 1-15, 2011, Ukraine exported less than 600 thsd tonnes of grains, and by the end of the current month the volume will not exceed 1.2 mln tonnes, declared Sergey Stoyanov, General Director of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.

The volume is 2 times less compared to the required volume for dynamic work of the market, exemption of storing facilities for the new harvest of late crops, he said on August 17.

According to the expert, the low rates of grain exports are caused by the fact that agrarians are holding down grain stocks, not wanting to sell grains at the present market prices. S.Stoyanov believes that the absence of VAT refunds to grain exporters and the effect of export duties on grains have the main influence on the cost of grains in Ukraine.

S.Stoyanov said that the prime cost of winter grains production in the perfect farms totaled 1250-1300 UAH/t, and in weaker farms - 1600 UAH/t. According to him, to date the price of 4- 6-grade wheat at the elevators in central Ukraine totals 1550 UAH/t.

The General Director of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation also confirmed the previously announced forecast of the organization concerning the average yield and export volumes in the current season. According to Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, Ukraine will produce 47.5 mln tonnes of grains in clean weight and export 23-24 mln tonnes.
