Ukraine harvests over 39 m t of grain, 6.7 m t of sunflower seeds, 11.4 m t of beet as of October 22
Ukraine had harvested 39.14 million tonnes of grain as of October 22, 2010, which was almost 9.3% down on the same date of 2009, the Agriculture Ministry has reported.
According to the ministry, Ukraine harvested 9.7 million tonnes of corn against 5.4 million tonnes in 2009. The average productivity of corn is currently 43.6 quintals per hectare, against 46.6 quintals per hectare last year.
In addition, as of October 22 farmers had harvested 6.7 million tonnes of sunflower seeds, which was 11.8% up on last year, and 11.4 million tonnes of sugar beet (70% up). The average productivity of these crops was respectively 16 quintals per hectare (against 15.4 quintals per hectare last year) and 295 quintals per hectare (299) respectively.
