Ukraine harvests almost 300,000 t of grain as of June 19
Early grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine have been harvested from 125,000 hectares, and almost 300,000 tonnes of grain has been threshed, Agricultural Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said.
"We’ve processed 125,000 hectares and harvested around 300,000 tonnes of grain," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
The minister said that the average yield of grain crops in Ukraine totals 23 centners per hectare, while year-over-year the indicator was 16.4 centners per hectare.
He said that the harvesting campaign was started in seven regions, in particular, Crimea, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions.
As reported, the Agricultural Policy Ministry of Ukraine predicts that in 2013 country could harvest 53-54 millions of tonnes of grain, compared to 46.2 million tonnes in 2012.
Ukraine for the harvest of 2013 sowed spring grains and leguminous crops on nearly 8.2 million hectares, with the areas under maize being nearly five million hectares.
