Ukraine Grain Stocks Up 28% On Year
The Ukraine grain harvest in 2013 was greater than in 2012, when crops were damaged by drought, and grain stocks in the country are more than a quarter higher than a year ago.
Grain stocks in Ukraine on Feb. 1 totaled 19.9 million metric tons, 28% more than the amount recorded on Feb. 1 2013, the state statistics service reported Friday.
Wheat stocks on the date totaled 6.1 million tons, barley stocks 1.6 million tons, corn stocks 11.1 million tons, rye stocks 400,000 tons.
On the same date, farmers held 10.8 million tons of grain, 46% more than the amount held a year ago. Grain storage and processing enterprises held 9.1 million tons of grain, 12% more than a year ago. The agriculture ministry said earlier Ukraine's 2013 grain harvest was about 63 million tons, up from 46.2 million tons in 2012.
Sunflower seeds stocks on the date totaled 1.3 million tons, 56% higher than amount on Sept. 1, 2012.
