Ukraine gathers its first million tons of grain
As of today, one million tons of grain was gathered, President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation (UAC) Leonid Kozachenko informed.
According to him, the yield will make up about 39 million tons, and the carry-over stocks of the last year's yield are estimated approximately at eight million tons.
The expert fears that a large supply of grain at the beginning of the marketing year might bring to a considerable drop in internal prices for it.
In addition, the UAC President expressed anxiety over absence of the necessary resources with the agrarians to carry out the harvesting campaign.
According to Kozachenko, out of approximately UAH 5 billion (1 USD - 7.63 UAH) necessary for harvesting the economies have only 50% of the funds.
The Agricultural Policy Ministry forecasts the grain yield for 2009 at 42-43 million tons against 53.3 million tons gathered in 2008.
