Ukraine exports 41.5% of agricultural machines sold
Ukrainian agricultural machine manufacturing enterprises in 2009 exported machines worth a total of UAH 1.057 billion, which was 41.5% of the total sales for 2009, the Industry Ministry's press service has reported.
"Due to the insufficient purchasing power of the domestic market, machine manufacturers invigorated their work on foreign markets in spite of warning customs measures being approved by the majority of countries importing Ukrainian agricultural machines," a statement reads.
At the same time, the press service said that during the last years a sharp increase in imports of agricultural machines was observed: imports have grown by almost 17 times since 2000 and domestic production fell by only 3.6 times.
The ministry also said that when farmers use subsidies to buy imported machines, this effectively leads to support for foreign producers coming from Ukraine's national budget.
