Ukraine exports 21.5 m tonnes of grain this marketing year
Ukraine has exported 21.5 million tonnes of grain since the current marketing year started on July 1, 2008, Agriculture Minister Yuriy Melnyk told journalists in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Melnyk said the ministry plans to revise its forecast for the grain harvest this year taking into account the weather conditions, he said.
The updated figures could be announced in a week, he said.
The ministry's previous forecast for this year's grain harvest was 48 million tonnes.
According to the State Statistics Committee, Ukraine harvested 53.3 million tonnes of grain in 2008, or 82% more than in 2007.
Total grain exports could reach 25.6 million tonnes during the current marketing year, the ministry said.
