Ukraine: Crimea decreased grain sales by 53%

As of March 1, 2010, agricultural enterprises (except of small ones) of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine) sold 30.8 thsd tonnes of grains, a decrease of 53% compared to the same period of the previous year, declared the Main department of statistics of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

According to the announcement, wheat sale volumes lowered by 67.6% compared to the previous year index – to the level of 15.2 thsd tonnes, barley – down 31.7% to 9.2 thsd tonnes, maize – down 91.8% to 59 tonnes. Besides, the region sold 96 tonnes of sunflower seed.

In January-February of 2010, the average price of grains, offered by the Crimean enterprises, dealing with grain storing and processing, to agricultural commodity producers, totaled 1.1 thsd UAH/t, including wheat – 1.06 thsd UAH/t as opposed to 1.09 thsd UAH/t and 932.7 UAH/t in January-February of 2009, respectively.
