Ukraine: buckwheat production to total over 300 thsd tonnes
Buckwheat production in Ukraine will exceed the level of 300 thsd tonnes, declared Alexander Demidov, Director of the department of farming agriculture of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
As of September 20, Ukrainian agrarians harvested buckwheat throughout the areas of 227 thsd ha, or 76% of the forecast. The production volumes totaled 255 thsd tonnes. Thus, in the current year the crop will not cause any political issues. Agrarians produced nearly 1.5 mln tonnes of rapeseed. Agrarians harvested sunflower seed throughout nearly 2 mln ha, and produced 3.5 mln tonnes of the oilseed with the average yield of 17.9 c/ha, an increase of 2 c/ha compared to last year, said A.Demidov.
He also noted that Ukraine plans to produce the record soybean harvest - 2.2 mln tonnes.
