Ukraine, Austria want to deepen trade and economic cooperation

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Austrian Federal Austrian Heinz Fischer at a meeting in New York on September 22 stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation, especially in the trade and economic sector.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian president, the parties also discussed some issues of international politics and the energy situation in Europe.

Fischer said that Austria was interested in deepening relations with Ukraine in the economic sphere and added that there were significant opportunities for this.

Speaking about Ukraine's foreign policy, the Austrian president described it as "reasonable and justified." He noted, in particular, close relations between Ukraine and Russia and, at the same time, the maintenance of good relations between Ukraine and the European Union.

While speaking about the prospects for cooperation between the European Union and Ukraine, Yanukovych and Fischer raised the issue of preparations for the upcoming Ukraine-EU summit, which is to be held in November this year.

The Ukrainian president noted that during the summit, the sides were to discuss three important issues in relations between Ukraine and the EU, in particular, the signing of the association agreement, the creation of a free trade area and the introduction of the visa-free regime.

In this regard, Fischer said that the negotiation process on the visa-free travel to EU countries for Ukrainian citizens could soon be launched.
