Ukraine and Canada want to sign agreement on free trade zone in near future
Ukraine and Canada want to sign an agreement on the creation of a free trade zone between the two countries in the near future, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper said at a joint press conference in Kyiv on Monday.
"We will strive to sign such an agreement in the near future," the Ukrainian president said.
According to Yanukovych, the sides agreed to hold a second round of talks on the creation of a free trade zone in Ottawa on December 13.
"It is very beneficial for us, both for Ukraine and Canada, to sign such an agreement. The liberalization of trade relations will give us the possibility to extend our foreign markets: in North America for Ukraine, and in Eurasia for Canada," Yanukovych said.
Harper, in turn, said that at present it is too early to forecast the results of the second round of talks. But at the same time, he said that the sides would strive to achieve positive results.
