Ukraine. Agriculture Ministry predicts no rise in prices of bread
Prices of bread will not be raised, Ukrainian Deputy Agriculture Minister Serhiy Tryhubenko has said.
He noted that the Agriculture Ministry "has every reason to make such statements."
"We have the issue of grain storage at the Agrarian Fund, the issue of flour, and the issue of harvest. All these issues can be considered as resolved. I also want to note that in calculating the prime cost of bread production there are a number of so-called pension positions that also affect the prime cost of production. I mean the types of bread of mass consumption," Tryhubenko said.
Director of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting Ihor Burakovsky said that bread could grow in price by 10-70% this autumn.
"The government may try to keep the price of only the so-called 'social bread.' But it will be difficult to do so," he said.
