Ukraine: agricultural crops sowing areas to total 26.7 mln ha - N.Prysiazhnyuk
The general crops sowing area under the harvest-2011 in Ukraine will total 26.7 mln ha (the same as last year), informed Nikolay Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.
The general grain sowing areas will occupy the area of 15.6 mln ha, an increase of 443 thsd ha compared to 2010, which will constitute 58% of the sowing areas structure. Taking into account winter crops sowing areas, after overwintering the sowings totaled 8 mln ha, about 100 thsd ha perished, or 1.5% of the areas. Spring crops and leguminous plants, including maize, to be sown throughout the areas of 7.6 mln ha, said N.Prysiazhnyuk.
He also said that the projected widening of maize grain sowing areas totals 3.2 mln ha, or up 457 thsd ha compared to the last year indices, buckwheat areas - to 313.5 thsd ha, or up 98 thsd ha, millet areas - to 131 thsd ha, or up 41 thsd ha.
As of May 10, 2011, agrarians sowed spring grains and leguminous plants throughout the area of 6.5 mln ha, or 86% of the forecast (7.6 mln ha), which almost at the level of the same period last year.
