Ukraine: 88.3% of winter crops to be estimated as good and satisfactory
The condition of 88.3% of winter crops at the area of 8.64 mln ha are estimated as good and satisfactory, declared the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine.
According to the Ministry, 8.4% of the sowings on 0.82 mln ha are weak and thinned, 3.3% (0.32 mln ha) of the sowings are damaged. 92.3% of winter grain sowings or 7.61 mln ha have good and satisfactory condition, 7.2% (nearly 0.6 mln ha) are weak and thinned, 0.5% (41.000 ha) of the sowings perished.
Winter rapeseed sowings have good and satisfactory condition throughout 66.2% of the sowing areas, 14.1% - weak and thinned, 19.7% - perished.
As of May 8, 2009, winter crops sowings in Ukraine had good and satisfactory condition throughout 87.4% of sowing areas or 8.56 mln ha, 9.7% or 0.95 mln ha were estimated as weak and thinned, 2.8% or 0.27 mln ha of the sowings perished. Winter rapeseed sowings had good and satisfactory condition throughout 66.2% of the sowing areas, 16.3% of the areas were weak and thinned, 17.6% - perished.
According to the data of the State Committee of Statistics, Ukraine sowed winter crops for the harvest-2009 throughout 9.78 mln ha, an increase of 1.8% compared to 2007, including 8.25 mln ha of winter grains, up 3.5%. Winter rapeseed sowings total 1.44 mln ha.
