Tymoshenko urges Regional State Administrations to activate foods prices growth curbing work

Speaking on May 08/09 selector meeting on State budget Jan-Apr 2009 execution, Premier Yuliya Tymoshenko demanded from Regional State Administrations to intensify work on food articles prices growth curbing.

“I ask that work of commissions subordinate to Regional State Administrations Chiefs should be activated. These commissions have always been busy with antiinflationary work. Also, I insist that each food article price growth should be examined and reacted upon,” declared Tymoshenko.

Premier made it known despite total country inflationary processes slowing there are cases of some food articles prices unmotivated growth in some regions. Thus, in part., Lugansk region wheat bread prices have risen by 4.1%, while Chernighiv region sugar prices have boosted by 12%.

Besides, Tymoshenko admitted prices of different food articles (e.g. beef, pork or poultry) are much varying depending on regions.

“These are nothing but monopolistic phenomena resulting in artificial prices getting fixed on market. These phenomena must be liquidated through normal interventions. Agricultural fairs are to be held so that prices, which are dictated only by 3-4 markets owners who have already “completely lost their mind and gone nuts !” are pushed down. One mustn’t treat purchasers like that,” recapitulated Premier.

Tymoshenko commissioned Ministry of Economics/State Committee for Prices to control cities/villages agricultural fairs organizing/holding.
