State planning to buy 200-300 grain harvesters from Khersonmash in 2012

The Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry is planning to buy 200-300 grain harvesters made by Kherson engineering plant (Khersonmash) to harvest crops in 2012, the ministry's press service reported on Wednesday after a visit of Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk to the enterprise.

"We leave around 3-5 million tonnes of grain due to the absence of harvesters. These are billions of dollars," he said.

The ministry said that Ukraine's need in new harvesters is around 7,500 units every year. The ministry forecasts that demand on machinery will grow after the conducting of a land reform and the increase of harvest to 80 million tonnes of grain per year in five years.

Prysiazhniuk expressed readiness of its ministry to coordinate agricultural engineering in the country.

The Novy Chas local publication reported that Prysiazhniuk said that the State Food-Grain Corporation will pay UAH 24 million to Khersonmash by August 6, 2011 for 21 combines supplied in the first half of 2011, while initially the corporation was to pay for the combines on July 15, 2011.

The owner of Khersonmash, Oleksandr Oliynyk, said that the company is planning to send the funds to start a new Skif combine production. He said that the company could produce up to 100 Skif combines if there were demand on them.

Kherson Engineering Plant Ltd. founded on the basis of Kherson Combines' assets, is part of BilotserkivMAZ of businessman Oliynyk. The company produces Slavutych and Skif harvesters.
