State of winter sowing - hydrometeocenter
The state of winter grain culture sowings is good and satisfactory, on separate areas in Luhansk region and Crimea they are unsatisfactory. In some places, sowings are damaged by agricultural pests, the Hydrometeocenter informs.
A peculiarity of the sowing this autumn is its great heterogeneity. Despite favorable conditions of the last ten days of October, due to an unfavorable previous period (drought that lasted till October 10) and late sowing terms on many areas a lag is observed in phase development of winter crops by 20-25 days against the average many-year terms. According to expert estimate, winter crops formed nodal roots on only 30-40% of sowed areas. On many areas in the regions that suffered most from drought grain growing was observed only in 30-35 days following the sowing.
In Ukraine, according to live data, winter cultures are sown on the area of 8.1million ha, out of this number, for grain - a bit less than 8 million ha.
