Active investments into pig growing and boosting of production by many companies brought its results - in January-April 2013, agricultural enterprises sold 154,800 tons of pigs for slaughter in live weight, which is 18.3% against the previous year indexes. The Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Association told  about this.

Production of fresh and cooled pork over those months made up 63,400 tons, whereas frozen pork - 3,400 tons. Therefore, Ukraine boosts the share of national pork on the domestic market.

This year, agricultural enterprises have grown 170,100 pigs in live weight, which is 13% up the indexes of 2012. The pig population at enterprises grew by 8% and as of May 1 made up 3,700 million heads. Increase in the pig sale volume took place at the expense of reduction of import of this type of meat and due to preparation to May and Easter holidays.

Pork production will grow in the country in the future and will substitute the earlier imported meat from Brazil. On the whole, positive trends are observed in the sector, because Ukraine has all chances to reach self-provision with pork,” agricultural markets expert Alina Zharko notes.
