Russia’s grain harvest down 3% as of August 1
Russia’s grain harvest has amounted to 26.9 million tonnes as of August 1, down 3% from the same period of last year, the Federal State Statistics Service said in a report obtained by PRIME–TASS Friday.
Of the total, wheat output amounted to 20.8 million tonnes as of August 1, down 8.3% from the same period of last year.
Grain has been harvested from 37.3% of the total planted area, the service said.
Projections show that under a worst case scenario the grain harvest in Russia could be 60 million tonnes in 2010, Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik said earlier in August.
Russia’s grain harvest totaled 97 million tonnes in 2009, down 10.3% on the year, according to earlier reports.
