Russia: ports of the Southern basin noticeably increased grain shipment
During 4 months of 2009, the cargo flow of sea ports of Russia increased by 5.1% compared to the same period of 2008 - to 151.5 mln tons. The growth was caused by the increase of bulked cargo shipment by 12.4% - to 94.1 mln tons, declared the Association of sea trading ports of Russia on May 18.
At the same time, the volumes of dry cargo shipment totaled 57.4 mln tons, down 5.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. The ports kept the tendency of decreasing of shipment of mineral fertilizers by 35.1% (down 1.4 mln tons), containers by nearly 40% (down 478.300 TEU), timber cargo by two times (down 1.8 mln tons), general cargo by 23.4% (down 4.4 mln tons).
Shipment volumes of coal increased by 7.4% (up 1.3 mln tons), ore by 1.5 times (up 0.8 mln tons), ferry cargoes by 14.1% (up 0.3 mln tons). The sea ports of the Southern basin, especially Novorossiysk sea trading port, greatly increased grain shipments by 4 times (up 2.3 mln tons).
The volumes of cargo shipment in sea ports of the North-Western basin totaled 68.9 mln tons (up 1%), the Southern basin - 57.2 mln tons (up 15.3 mln tons), the Far-Eastern basin - 25.4 mln tons (down 3.6%).
