Russia: ports of the Azov-Don basin increased grains and oilseeds exports by 4.5%
During January-September of 2009, the growth rates of cargo shipment in the ports of the Azov-Don basin in Russia totaled 1.6% compared to the same period of the previous year – to 14.85 mln tonnes, declared the press-cutting service of the Azov-Don state basin department of waterways and navigation.
Particularly, export shipment volumes of grains, oilseeds and by-products exceed the indices of the same period of the previous year by 4.5% and totaled 5.42 mln tonnes, petroleum cargoes – up 5.8% to 3.2 mln tonnes, sulphur – up 16.1% to 1.52 mln tonnes.
Other varieties of main cargoes showed the reduction of shipment volumes in the ports of the Azov-Don basin compared to January-September of 2008. The ports reduced coal exports by 20.9%, to 1.01 mln tonnes, scrap metal – down 60.2% to 513.7 thsd tonnes.
The area of responsibility of the Azov-Don basin department covers the river Don from the Tsumlianskoe reservoir to the Azov Sea. Besides, the department controls navigation processes in feeders of the Don.
