Russia may take place among three leading grain exporters within 5 years
According to the Minister of Agriculture of Russia Alexey Gordeev, within 5 years Russia may take place among three leading grain exporters.
According to him, the increase of grain production by 30 mln tonnes due to returning of 20-25 mln ha of unused lands to land turnover will contribute to this.
In accordance with the state program of agricultural development for the period from 2008 till 2012 years, grain production in Russia in next 5 years may reach 100 mln tonnes. In 2007 Russia harvested 81.8 mln tonnes of grain, this year the yield is expected at the level of 85 mln tonnes.
According to the Federal Statistics Service, in 2007 Russia exported 16.7 mln tonnes of grain, up 49.5% as compared to 2006. Since July 2007, the country exported 13 mln tonnes of grain.
