Russia: grain production to total 75-85 mln tonnes – forecast
According to expectations, the index of spring grains production in Russia in the current year will reach the average annual level, which allows to forecast the general grain production in Russia within range of 75-85 mln tonnes, declared Andrew Sizov (the company SovEcon), during the present Grain Trading Summit, taking place in Egypt, Sharm El Sheikh (April 17-19).
The expert also marked that winter grain production volumes in the country will possibly total 36 mln tonnes, taking into account that winter grain sowing areas will reduce to the level of 15.5 mln ha.
A.Sizov informed that imposition of the grain export ban caused the short-term reduction of prices on the domestic market. But in 2011 selling of grains from the public intervention fund also provided rather essential influence at price reduction on the market.
Before coming into effect of the grain export ban (August 15, 2010) Russia managed to export 3.8 mln tonnes of grains, including 3.3 mln tonnes of wheat. During July-August of 2010, the country exported 1.6 mln tonnes of wheat to Egypt.
According to A.Sizov, the possible scenarios of the situation development include both prolongation of the export ban till the autumn of 2012, or imposition of the export quotas or export duties for grains, instead of the present embargo.
The expert also marked that to date the large-scale grain exporters actively lobby the further cancellation of the export ban. The tendency is demonstrated through active purchasing activity of exporters on the market of milling wheat, especially in the Southern region.
