Russia: grain harvest to be high, but lower quality – National union of grain producers
According to Pavel Skurikhin, President of the National union of grain producers, in the current year the general grain production volumes are expected to reach the level of 85-90 mln tonnes in bunker weight. The reporting volume will be sufficient for securing the domestic needs and export growth, which is expected to reach 20 mln tonnes, added P.Skurikhin.
However, according to the expert, due to the adverse weather conditions in some regions during the vegetation season (in the south - cold spring, in the Volga region - hot weather) and the mass destruction of crop sowings by pests, milling grains production in 2011 will be 15-20% less compared to the previous years.
However, taking into account the reserves of the public intervention fund in which the main volume - namely milling grains, and the current harvest volumes, the needs of the baking industry will be completely provided.
