Prysiazhniuk: Ukraine could export 5.5 m tons of wheat

Grain traders could freely export 5.5 million tons of wheat in the 2012/2013 marketing season.
Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk announced this during his visit to the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine on Tuesday, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry told UKRINFORM.
"We exported 4.4 million tons of wheat this year. Over the past five years we exported on average five million tons of wheat per year. Today we can export 5.5 million tons of wheat without any risk," the minister said.
He also said that Ukrainian grain was currently being supplied to foreign markets rhythmically. The government will not take any radical and unpredictable measures on wheat exports, he added.
As reported, under a memorandum signed by the government and grain traders, in the current marketing season traders could freely export 4 million tons of wheat, 3.2 million tons of barley and 12.4 million tons of corn, and then restrictions could be imposed. However, the ministry currently sees no grounds for this and even made concessions to traders, increasing the wheat export limit to 5 million tons.
