The projected decline in soybean sowings this year is confirmed

The pace of this year's soybean planting season has fallen by 7% compared with last year's figures. As of May 29, Ukraine has sowed 1670 thous. hectares of soybeans, which is 87% of the planned sowing areas this year.  In comparison,  1 830 thous. hectares or 94% of the plan were sown at that date in the past year.

Taking into account that the optimal timing for the soybean sowing is completed, and the lack of moisture in the topsoils does not allow agrarians to succeed in sowing this crop, it can be concluded that soybean sowings will be reduced by about 200 thous. hectares compared to the previous season. This situation is an alarm signal given that the past 20-25 years the planted areas have been increasing steadily.

This trend is confirmed by the results of research «UCAB Metrics 2018: Seeds, Plant production products and Fertilizer» conducted by the UCAB team of analysts in March this year
