Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine to forecast higher imports of palm oil in 2010
The imports of palm oil to Ukraine in 2010 could rise from 265 tonnes to 300-350 thousand tonnes, forecasted the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, informed the press-service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy on April 23.
Thus, according to the report, in 2009 the imports of palm oil decreased by 36% compared to the previous year - up to 265 thousand tonnes, including from Malaysia - 29% to 123 thousand tonnes.
Also, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy notes that the largest imports of palm oil was reported in 2008 - 413 thousand tonnes (including 173 thousand tonnes from Malaysia and 230 thousand tonnes from Indonesia), which was associated with a sharp rise in prices for sunflower oil, twice exceeded the price of palm oil.
In addition, the press service reported that the issues of cooperation in the oilseed industry and other areas were discussed in Kiev by the Acting First Deputy Minister, Sergey Melnik, and Minister of plantation and raw materials of Malaysia, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.
In particular, the sides discussed state and prospects of developing trade and economic relations and cooperation between Ukrainian and Malaysian businessmen and banking institutions, the question of the possibility of increasing exports of Malaysian palm oil to Ukraine, Ukrainian grain exports to Malaysia.
