Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine forecasts resowing of 12-15% of winter crops sowing areas
In the current year, Ukraine will have to resow nearly 12-15% of winter crops sowing areas, declared Nikholay Prisyashnuk, the Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, on March 30.
According to the Minister, winter rapeseed faced the largest level of damage from the weather conditions of the last winter.
N.Prisyashnuk also market that the sowing campaign in the current year started in three weeks later compared to the traditional sowing terms. According to the preliminary data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, agrarians of Ukraine will sow agricultural crops for the harvest-2010 throughout 26.9 mln ha, including 15.6 mln ha of spring crops (7.3 mln ha of grains and leguminous plants, 6.3 mln ha of industrial crops, and 2.8 mln ha of feed crops).
According to the Ministry, 7.1 mln ha of winter grains sowings showed good and satisfactory condition (85.7% of the general areas of winter grains sowings – 8.6 mln ha), 1.2 mln ha (14.3%) – showed weak and thinned condition, 0.2 mln ha (2.6%) – perished.
According to data of the State Statistics Committee, agrarians sowed winter crops for the harvest-2010 throughout 10.1 mln ha, up 3% compared to the previous year areas.
