Mexico allows corn imports to produce biofuels
Mexico will allow corn imports to produce biofuels, since a law limits the use of nationally grown food crops to make fuel, the government said on Thursday. "The partial or total use of imported corn for the production of biofuels will not require a permit from the agriculture ministry," said to the new rules published in the official gazette.
Mexico, a top crude oil exporter, prohibits the use of corn to make alternative fuels if it interferes with the food supply. Using food crops is allowed if there are surpluses, the official gazette said.
