Looking behind the scene: How to manage a high yielding dairy cow Swedish dairy farmers explain the secrets of their high input and high output system

Swedish dairy farmers explain their secrets for dairy production in a high input and high output system: happy and healthy cows. For Swedish dairy farmers that means to produce high quality forage and to ensure the cow’s wellbeing every single day. By using modern technologies and advanced control systems Swedish dairy farmers meet the need of their cows and the needs of modern farmers. The high national average milk yield shows the success of their strategy. Farmers from all over Europe can learn the details of a successful high input and high output dairy production during the Congress of the European Dairy Farmers which takes place end of June in Falkenberg, Sweden.

In a rapidly changing dairy context it is sometimes difficult to ensure quality and availability of all input factors on the farms. Farmers have to adopt strategies and have to be flexible in their decisions. “We as Swedish dairy farmers are looking forward to welcome our European colleagues on our farms. Sharing experiences on the different ways of farming always gives new ideas for both parties. The hosting farmer looks at his farm from a different perspective and the visiting farmers always take some ideas home to their farms.” – says Anders Christensson, chairman of the European Dairy Farmers (EDF) in Sweden.

The international EDF Congress 2013 will take place in June in Falkenberg, Sweden. More than 300 farmers and agribusiness partners from 20 countries are invited. Well known speakers will give their insight on the current dairy context as well as on the success factors of a high input and high output system. Next to that farm visits are always the highlight of the congress.

European Dairy Farmers (EDF) is a club of modern dairy farmers from all over Europe. Farmers meet to exchange experiences and knowledge on all dairy related topics. Regular benchmarking is an important topic within EDF. EDF farmers benchmark both: their economic performance and future perspectives. EDF is impartial, non- political and independent. Annual highlight is the EDF Congress which takes place in a different member state each year. Up to 350 dairy farmers and agribusiness partner join the event. Club language is English. President of EDF is Jean Francois Verdenal, dairy farmer from France.

In Ukraine the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" (UCAB) is a partner of EDF and supports the benchmarking projects.
