In 2011, Ukraine to increase millet production by 30%

 In 2011, Ukraine plans to increase millet production by 30%, declared Sergey Kvasha, Head of the department of all departments of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, on April 14.

According to him, the production volumes in 2010 completely secured all requirements of the population in the grain, to date the carry-over stocks are sufficient for keeping of the stable price level for the product.

S.Kvasha informed that millet is the traditional agricultural crop for Ukraine. In 2010, the country produced 117 thsd tonnes of the grain, in the beginning of 2010/11 MY the carry-over stocks totaled 15 thsd tonnes. According to the supply and demand balances the consumption volume totals 71 thsd tonnes, seeds – 5 thsd tonnes, forage aims – 15 thsd tonnes. The export trading totals 17.944 thsd tonnes. To date millet price level in Ukraine is the lowest among the countries-neighbours.
