In 2011 Ukraine to come to the TOP-5 largest maize producers – Ministry of Agrarian Policy

In 2011 Ukraine will come to the TOP-5 largest maize producers in the world, announced Alexander Demidov, Director of the department of farming agriculture of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
To date, agrarians harvested maize throughout 7% of the planned areas with the average yield of 50.4 c/ha. In the terms of maintaining the yield indices the country will produce over 18 mln tonnes of maize, which will become the record harvest volume, said A.Demidov.
He noted that in the current year agrarians increased maize sowing areas by 800 thsd ha, thus the production volumes will grow by 3.6 mln tonnes.
According to him, in 2011 the world market will produce 792 mln tonnes of maize, and Ukraine will come to the TOP-5 largest maize producers.
