In 2009, Ukraine harvested 46 mln tonnes of grains, down 13.7%

In 2009, all varieties of agricultural economies in Ukraine produced 46 mln tonnes of grains in clean weight, including 22.3 mln tonnes of milling grains (48%), 23.7 mln tonnes of feed grains (52%).

Grain production lowered by 13.7% compared to 2008, due to the decrease of grain yield indices by 4.9 c/ha or 14.2%, declared the State Committee of Statistics of Ukraine .

"Agricultural enterprises produced 35.8 mln tonnes of grains (78% of the general production), economies of the population – 10.2 mln tonnes (22%). Grain yield in agrarian enterprises totaled 30.4 c/ha, an increase of 2.8 c/ha compared to agrarian enterprises," Agri Market reported.

In 2009, Ukraine produced 142.9 thsd tonnes of rice, up 1.4 times compared to 2008.

Due to the reduction of yield indices, Ukraine lowered production volumes of all grains (except of maize) compared to 2008: wheat – by 19.3%, barley – 6.2%, rye – by 9.3%, oats – by 22.6%, buckwheat – 21.6%, millet – 36.9%.

The reduction of the harvest volumes of maize for grain by 8.5% was caused by the decrease of the harvesting areas in the terms of increasing of yield indices from 46.9 c/ha to 50.1 c/ha.

Sunflower production lowered by 2.5% compared to 2008, and totaled 6.4 mln tonnes due to the reduction of the harvesting areas (by 86.7 thsd tonnes or 2%). Agricultural enterprises harvested 5.2 mln tonnes of sunflower (down 2.1%) with the average yield of 15.7 c/ha, which became almost equal to the level of 2008 (99.4%).

Rapeseed production decreased by 34.8% compared to 2008, and totaled 1.9 mln tonnes, due to the reduction of the harvesting areas (down 366 thsd ha, or 26.5%), and the fall of yield indices by 2.3 c/ha (down 11.1%).

In 2009, Ukraine sowed agricultural crops throughout the areas of 27 mln ha, including agricultural enterprises – throughout 19.2 mln ha (71.1%), economies of population – 7.8 mln ha (28.9%). The general sowing areas reduced by 0.1 mln ha or 0.5% compared to 2008.
