In 2009, Russia provides spring sowing campaign in later terms compared to the previous year
In the current year, the majority of agricultural economies of the Russian Federation provides the sowing campaign of spring crops in later terms compared to the previous year, declared the Federal Service of State Statistics (Rosstat) on May 19.
As of May 1, 2009, agricultural organization sowed spring crops throughout the area of 6.8 mln ha, a decrease of 36.9% compared to the same date of the previous year, including grains (without maize) - 3.8 mln ha (down 46.9%).
As of May 1, 2009, the sowing areas of spring grains (without maize) totaled 17.2% only from the general areas of spring grains sowings (without maize), formed by agricultural organization in 2008, maize sowing areas totaled 24.4% respectively.
The Central, Southern and Volga Federal Districts contain 96.2% of sowings of all spring crops.
