Grain reserves down on the year
The reserves of grain at agricultural companies (but those of a small scale) and enterprises engaged in its storage and processing by November 1 totaled 22.4 million tons, which is 9% down on 2008, the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine reported.
The reserves of wheat made 11.1 million tons, corn 3.6 million tons, barley 5.3 million tons, and rye 0.8 million tons, the committee says.
The agricultural policy ministry predicts a yield of about 47 million tons.
According to the State Statistics Committee, in 2008 Ukraine harvested 53.3 million tons of grain (in weight after treatment), which is 82% up on 2007.
