Fruit and vegetable basket 2.6% up over week
The fruit and vegetable index over the previous week (from December 14 to December 20) grew by 2.6%, following its growth by 7.1% a week earlier. Therefore, a rise of prices for the fruit and vegetable basket in Ukraine continued for five weeks in succession, for this period total cost of the fruit and vegetable basket grew by 36.5%.
“Over the previous week, in addition to a traditional rise of a price for the borshch set of vegetables, also the prices for hot house vegetables and even fruits increased, which have preserved an unprecedented stability until now,” head of the project Tetiana Hetman noted.
In her opinion, in the pre-New Year period, probability of growth of prices for the fruit set will be rather high, in particular, on the backdrop of bad weather conditions in main supply countries, in particular, in Turkey.
The expert noted that last week, green cabbage grew in price most - by 36.4%. Onions also continued to rise in price, although their growth rates, which have already hit all the records, considerably dropped. Hot house vegetables became more expensive by 11.9%, and the fruit set - by 7.7%.
The apple price also increased, but, as before, it is considerably cheaper against the previous year. Also, prices started to rise for citrus fruit crops. At the same time, a rise of prices for potatoes and beets stopped, which have been actively rising in price until now.
