France to assist Pakistan in promotion of agriculture sector
French Ambassador to Pakistan Daniel Jouanneau has said that France would assist and extend all possible support for the promotion of agriculture sector. Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Thursday he said that France and Pakistan had always enjoyed bilateral relations. "France wants to develop long-term partnership with Pakistan in all sectors," he said.
He disclosed that a meeting of a committee on Trade would be held in February next year in Pakistan, which would review the possibilities of access of Pakistani products to the European Union. In his welcome address, President SCCI Muhammad Ishaq Butt said that there was vast scope of setting up joint ventures between Pakistan and French companies especially in the field of sports goods, surgical instruments, leather products and information technology.
France donated 2.3 million Euros for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons with additional 10 million Euros for food. France has also announced to provide 300 Euros during the next three years (2009-2011) for socio-economic development in Pakistan, Butt said.
He further stated that during 2008 the volume of trade between Pakistan and France reached the figure of 800 million Euros. There are 35 French companies working in Pakistan at present. Although the total direct foreign investment by French companies remained low but major French multinational companies had established subsidiaries in Pakistan that created over 10,000 job opportunities, Butt said.
