Farmers harvest 19.261 million MT of potatoes as of Oct 1, State Statistics Committee
As of October 1, farmers had harvested 19.261 million MT of potatoes, an increase by 2.7% compared with the same period of 2008, the State Statistics Committee has reported.
They harvested potatoes on 1,387,600 hectares, a 2% growth over the corresponding indicator of 2008.
The average yield of potatoes is 139 centners per hectare in 2009, 1 centner per hectare more compared with 2008.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, as of September 1 farmers had harvested 11.879 MT of potatoes, a 19.4% growth compared with the same period of 2008.
In 2008, the harvest of potatoes (after processing) rose by 2.3% or 443,000 MT compared with 2007, to 19.545 million MT. In 2007, the harvest of potatoes (after processing) fell by 1.9% or 364,800 MT compared with 2006, to 19.102 million MT.
