As of September 27, 2011, Ukraine harvested 39 mln tonnes of grains. The export potential of grains in the current year totals 24-25 mln tonnes, declared Nikolai Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, on September 28.

According to him, the carry-over stocks in the country totaled 6.2 mln tonnes. Taking into account the forecast data that Ukraine will produce over 50 mln tonnes of grains, the Ministry can forecast that the export potential of grains in the current year totals 24-25 mln tonnes, said N.Prysiazhnyuk.

Besides, the Minister informed that as of September 27 Ukrainian agrarians harvested grains and leguminous crops throughout the areas of 12.3 mln ha. The production volumes totaled 39 mln tonnes of grains with the average yield of 31.6 c/ha. Last year the yield totaled 21.6 c/ha.

According to forecast data from regions of Ukraine, in the current year the general harvesting areas total 15.5 mln ha of grain and leguminous crops, including maize. In general, agrarians almost completed harvesting of grains, and produced 22 mln tonnes of wheat in registered weight, an increase of 3.2 mln tonnes compared to last year; 9 mln tonnes of barley, up 0.5 mln tonnes compared to the previous year, 567 thsd tonnes of rye, up 102 thsd tonnes compared to last year.

To date, agrarians continue harvesting maize, and harvested the grain throughout 19% of the planned areas. The expected production volumes of maize varies within the range of 17-19 mln tonnes, and the Ministry will support exporting of the volume, added N.Prysiazhnyuk.

Besides, the Minister noted that realizing of the autumn field works is also the important issue. As of September 27, agrarians sowed winter crops throughout 4.1 mln ha, or 50% of the forecast. Last year on the same date agrarians sowed crops throughout 4 mln ha.
