European Union - the main market for grains from the Black sea region
The countries of the European Union stay the main market for grains from the Black Sea region, declared Hesus Maria Fernandes, the director of Zeleny Informacion y Mercado S.L., during the international conference "Grain Forum & Grain Industry - 2009" on May 21 in Yalta.
According to the data of H.Fernandes, during recent three years, the share of the Black Sea countries in the imports of grains to the European countries totaled 26%.
The share of wheat from the Black Sea region on the market of the EU totaled 53%, Ukrainian feed wheat formed the majority of the import volumes.
During the mentioned period, the share of Russian and Ukrainian maize in the import structure of the EU exceeded the level of 12%, and continues growing, despite the existing limitations for maize imports to the EU.
At the same time, according to the expert, the countries of the Black Sea region and the EU have the highest competition on the markets of the North Africa and the Middle East. During recent 3 seasons, grain exports from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan exceeded the level of the EU exports by 70%.
