European Union - Slowdown in grain imports
With just 1.5 million tonnes bought so far this season compared with 2mt in 2009/10 and 3mt 2008/09, grain imports into the EU-27 are currently way below normal, while exports remain strong as the world struggles to source grains in Russia's absence from the market.
The fall in imports (in week one to ten of MY 2010/11) comes despite the fact that all variable import duties are currently at zero, with the exception of rye and sorghum (€10/t), a Commission report reveals.
