Export of agricultural products has decreased by 4.8% for the year
For Ukrainian agriculture, 2013 ended with positive balance in foreign trade – 8,8 bln USD, that is 14,7% less than the previous year. Herewith, exports of agricultural products totaled 17 bln USD, that is 4,8% less than the previous year's figures. The same time, imports increased by 8.8% and totaled 8,2 bln USD. It was informed by the Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club” (UCAB).
For the year, the structure of exports hasn’t indicated significant changes. In the top-10 of most exported agricultural goods only sunflower oil exported for $ 3,3 bin USD, lost its position taken by corn which was sold abroad for 3,8 bln USD.
However, the list of commodity positions in top 10 imported products remains the same, but structural changes happened that were caused by mainly disproportional accretion of imports. In particular, imports of frozen fish increased by 30,7% in money terms (132,2 mln USD), and currently it occupies 6,9% in the structure of agricultural goods imports. The second position is taken by citrus with indicator of 5.7% thanks to increased imports for 97,7 mln USD (by 26,7%). Pork imports, which has been a leader among imported agricultural goods in 2012, last year decreased by 16,3% (57,9 mln USD) and had 4,7% in the structure of imports.
"Last year, Ukraine has not achieved the expected indicators in foreign trade partly due to weather conditions in early fall caused the delay in harvesting, processing and shipment of export-oriented crops. Also, it occurred temporary termination in trade activity with Russian Federation led to the losses by exporters about 5,5 mln USD daily", - summarized Expert on agrarian markets of UCAB Igor Ostapchuk.
