Draft cabinet resolution on introduction of grain export quotas not in line with Ukraine's liabilities to WTO, says expert
A draft cabinet resolution on the introduction of grain export quotas, which foresees a 2.7 million tonne quota until December 31, 2010, is not in line with commitments taken by Ukraine when the country joined the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to a lawyer of Volkov and Partners law firm, Iryna Polovets.
She was commenting on a draft resolution drawn up by the Ukrainian Economy Ministry and recently posted on its Web site.
"The only possible reason for introducing the quotas is a critical shortage of food in the exporting country, but the draft resolution does not say that it is aimed at preventing a critical shortage of food," Polovets said.
