Crimean agrarians to increase oilseed production by 60%

In the current year, agricultural economies of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine) plan to produce 122.2 thsd tonnes of oilseeds, an increase of 45.5 thsd tonnes (or up 60%) compared to the level of 2009.
 
According to the decree of the Council of Ministers of the Crimea, at the same time, the recommended sowing areas for planting of oilseeds total 94.8 thsd ha. In the current year, the Crimea plans to harvest 45 thsd tonnes of sunflower seed, up 26.8 thsd tonnes (or up 2.5 times) compared to the previous year. The region plans to provide nearly 35 thsd ha for growing of the crop.
 
In 2009, oilseed production volumes in the Crimea decreased by 19.3% – to the level of 76.7 thsd tonnes. Sunflower production reduced by 36.4% – to 18.2 thsd tonnes. Oilseed sowings occupied 73.7 thsd ha.
